Monte Albán is an ancient Zapotec, Olmec, and Mixtec metropolis founded in the 6th century B.C. and  overlooks the city of Oaxaca. It was inhabited for about 1,500 years  It's fairly easy to get a taxi to take you straight there, and even another to get back into the city from the monument parking lot. The site is truly breathtaking, 360 views of the central valley and city.

The mercado's are the best place to grab a quick bite, buy some souvenirs or even groceries. Each market has a different vibe and it's worth visiting even just to escape the heat. Bring cash because most places here don't accept cards-and make sure to stop by the Museo Textil de Oaxaca located just a few minutes away from the mercados.

Oaxaca is a very hilly city rivaling San Francisco but at an elevation of 5,108 feet! The hills are wild, wear comfortable shoes and stay aware of where you’re stepping. Our calves got quite the unexpected workout..

we stayed in the neighborhood of Xochimilco, a quick 15 minute walk to the giant Mercados and street markets. well known for it's mole, chocolate and mezcal! We even brought hot cocoa chocolate disks home in Anna’s bag, sooo good!

hope you enjoyed our Oaxaca recap & guide! let us know if you make your way there! love u
